EDITH ELEANOR (ROBERTS) OWEN, 97, went to be with her Lord on November 27, 2015.
Born in Bethlehem, KY., she was the daughter of the late Garnett and Anna Gertrude (Gardner) Roberts.
She was the owner and Chairman Emeritus of The Owen Funeral Home where she was a funeral director, organist and singer for over 75 years. She is also the co-owner of Highlands Family Owned Funeral Home. Edith was president for several years of W.M.U. at the former Virginia Avenue Baptist Church and Audubon Baptist Church; was past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of Funeral Directors Assoc. of KY., on the Board of the Ladies Auxiliary of Southern Baptist Seminary, on the Board of Audubon Park Garden Club and Board of Jubilee Housing - Georgetown Circle. She was a member of Eastern Star, Bright Star Chapter #16, Fall City Funeral Directors Association, Audubon Country Club, and Audubon Baptist Church where she was the first woman deacon, and served as an organist and pianist for several churches. She had an outstanding musical ear, loved to work in her garden, and enjoyed her time spent with her snow bird gang in the condo she loved in Marco Island, Florida.
Preceding her in death was her devoted husband Bird S. Owen, Jr.; son-In-law, Chuck Miller; and two grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda Owen Miller (special friend, Rick Gossom) ; her son, David L. Owen (Pam); grandchildren, Rachel Barr (Rick), Daniel, Marcy, Rosa and Christina Lee.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Audubon Baptist Church, 1046 Hess Lane with burial in Cave Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 – 8 p.m. Friday at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway.
