Loving Father and Grandfather
Age 89 of North St. PaulHarry was born in Saint Paul Minnesota on February 6, 1926 and was a life long resident of North Saint Paul. He was a Civil Engineer working at the Minnesota Department of Transportation for over 35 years in a variety of roles.
Harry was generous with his time, talents and resources as exemplified by his activity in community and civic organizations. They included: Minnesota Masonic Order; American Legion Post 39 and affiliated 40/8 group and the MN Highway Department Post. His passion for flying was expressed in his involvement with the Minnesota Civil Air Patrol. As a Civil Engineer, he served on the Ramsey County Watershed Board and was a blood donor for decades.
Harry was very involved in his hometown of North St. Paul. He was president of the North St. Paul Historical Society and active society member for decades. In his retirement Harry served as a North St. Paul City Council member for two terms and was a lifetime member of the Colby Hill Community Club. Strong in faith, Harry was a lifelong member of Saint Marks Lutheran Church singing in the choir and serving as an usher for many years. Preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Betty; parents Harry Adelbert Lyon, Sr. and Alice Lyon; son-in-law Ray Newmaster. Survived by children, Margaret Newmaster, Catherine (Donald) Suchomel, and Paul (Susan) Lyon; grandchildren Kyle and Brooke Newmaster; Shawn, Chris and Sarah Lyon and Chase and Melanie Suchomel. Funeral Service Tuesday (Dec. 1, 2015) 11:00 AM at ST. MARK’S EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2499 N. Helen St., North St. Paul. Interment Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Visitation Monday from 4 to 7 PM with Masonic Service at 6:45 PM at Sandberg Funeral Home, 2593 E. 7th Ave., North St. Paul and 1 hour prior to the Service at the church. Memorials preferred to St. Mark’s Indian School Child Fund and the North St. Paul Historical Society. Thank you to the care attendant team that helped dad over the past years.
