Obituary

Joseph T. Savard – known to all as “Be Bop” - died Saturday evening at home.
Born in Woonsocket he was a son of the late Theophile and Florence (Letendresse) Savard. He was a proud lifelong resident of the city.
Mr. Savard was a veteran of the United States Air Force.
He was employed in the local textile industry at several firms including the Andrews Mill.
Bee Bop’s true vocation in life was as a professional musician. He was a well-known figure in the local music scene. His performance as a saxophone player was renowned far and wide. Music was Be Bop’s life; spanning the scale from the sounds of classic jazz to rock and roll and anywhere and everywhere in between Be Bop played the sax with his trademark gusto.
Be Bop was truly a throwback to an earlier time – from his looks to the way he talked he was straight out of the Happy Days of the 1950s.
He enjoyed exercising at the Woonsocket YMCA. If Be Bop needed to get somewhere he walked.
Be Bop will be remembered for his friendly ways and for the fun and good times he brought to people. Those who shared those times were lucky enough to have crossed paths with the unforgettable Be Bop.
He was the brother of the late Normand H. Savard and Gertrude Savard.
He is survived by several nieces and extended family.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 10:00 am in Precious Blood Church, Carrington Ave. Woonsocket. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Charles Cemetery, Blackstone. Visiting hours are Friday morning from 8:30-9:30 am, prior to Mass, in the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave. Woonsocket.
