Shirley F. (Andrews) Smith, age 87 of Brockton, passed away peacefully on Saturday November 21, 2015 after a period of failing health. She was surrounded by her devoted family and was the loving wife of the late Albert J. Smith. Shirley was born in Brockton a daughter of the late Richard Andrews and Audrey (Lapworth)(Andrews) McCarthy and remained a lifelong resident of the city.
A 1947 graduate of Brockton High School, where she was voted the “Most Wittiest” of her class, Shirley was a stay at home mother. In her free time she enjoyed reading, television, cooking, knitting and crocheting. Shirley was politically interested in conservation issues and sat as a member of the Brockton Conservation Board in the 1970s . She had also worked at the Massasoit Childcare Center.
Shirley will be remembered as a kind woman with a great sense of humor who was particularly proud of her children and grandchildren.
Shirley was the devoted mother of Michael J. Smith of Seattle, WA; Patricia L. Packard and her husband Kenneth of Lakeville and Laura J. Huckabee and her husband Preston of Brockton. She was the grandmother of Mark Packard, Colin and Emily Huckabee and sister of the late Dana and Gordon Andrews.
Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (rte. 123) Brockton on Tuesday 5-7 pm with a funeral service at 7 pm. Burial will be private.
