TEWKSBURY – Jacqueline M. “Jackie” (Dufresne) McCarthy, 77, a well known and beloved member of the community, died peacefully on Sunday morning, November 22, at her home in the loving care of her son and daughter, following a long courageous battle with cancer.
Jackie was born in Lawrence in July 1938, one of nine children of the late Auther J. and Leona D. (Bernard) Dufresne, and was raised in the Howe Street neighborhood in Methuen. She was a graduate of the Tenney High School, Class of 1956, in Methuen.
She retired from a long career at M.I.T.’s Lincoln Labs in Lexington, where she finished her career at Lincoln’s Hanscom A.F.B. Flight Facility Division.
Jackie will be remembered as an avid golfer and bowler. She cultivated numerous friendships during her years of league play at Billerica CC, Tewksbury CC, Swanson Meadow GC and the bowling leagues at Collins Bowladrome in Billerica.
She was a communicant of St. William’s Church in Tewksbury.
She leaves two children, William J. McCarthy of Tewksbury, and Kelly A. Woloszynek and her husband John “Jay” of San Diego, CA; her siblings, Lucille L. St. Cyr, Donald J. Dufresne, and Barbara P. Rogers all of Haverhill, Eugene V. and his wife “Rody” Dufresne of Methuen, Jane D. and her husband Timothy Higgins of NH, her sisters-in-law, Carol Dufresne of Methuen, and Elizabeth M. “Betty” Gervais of Tewksbury; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her siblings, Robert A. Dufresne, Albert J. Dufresne, and Joyce D. Dufresne, and her beloved nephew John Gervais.
Jackie wanted her obituary to acknowledger and thank her family, her extended family, and many dear friends who remained supportive and close during the final years, months and days of her Life Journey.
Visiting hours Friday, Nov. 27, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Rte. 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, Ph. (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950. Her funeral will begin Saturday at 9:00 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St. (Rte. 38) Tewksbury. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the M.G.H.
