GILFORD – John R. McAuliffe, 91, of 20 Bedford Ave, died Thursday, November 19, 2015 in his home.
He was born on June 20, 1924 in Owens Mouth, California, the son of the late John T. and Bertha (Parsonage) McAuliffe. John served in the US Marine Corps during World War II. He received a B.S. in Civil Engineering from UNH and worked for 37 years for the State of New Hampshire Department of Transportation as a Highway Construction Engineer. John also was the head of the Railroad Division for the State of New Hampshire. He was a member of the Evangelical Baptist Church of Laconia. John enjoyed hunting, traveling in his R.V., antique car restoration, snowmobiling and was also a train and model railroad enthusiast.
He is survived by his wife, Annie E. (Butterfield) McAuliffe of Gilford, one son, John T. McAuliffe and his wife Elaine C. of Alton, two daughters; Marsha E. MacNeil and her husband Harry of Hampton and Joan L. Chagnon and her husband Brit of Londonderry, two brothers; William D. McAuliffe of FL and Thomas G. McAuliffe of Dalton, six grandchildren; Miles, Lauren, Marc and Jake Chagnon and John R. and Kyle B. McAuliffe, nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his parents.
Calling hours will be held from 4PM to 7PM on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at the Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, using the Carriage House entrance. Funeral services will follow at 7:30PM, also at the funeral home. Burial will be held at a later date at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen.
