Obituary

Lawrence P. Cummings, Jr., age 79 of Brockton, died on November 18, 2015 at NE Sinai Hospital following a period of failing health. He was the loving husband for 51 years of Claire F. (Bishop) Cummings. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Lawrence P. and Mary C. (Rigney) Cummings, Sr. He was raised and educated in West Roxbury, and was a 1958 graduate of Boston College. Larry was proud to be a Golden Eagle-a 50 year graduate of Boston College. He served with the Navy during Vietnam and for 30 years, had been employed at Nursery Needs by Sanitoy in Fitchburg, MA; many of those years as Vice President of Sales. He was a communicant of St. Colman/Christ the King Parish for 51years, where he taught CCD, was a Lector and Eucharistic Minister. Larry was among the first group of ordained Eucharistic Ministers in Massachusetts. He was an avid sports fan, especially of the Red Sox, and enjoyed boating, time at the lake house in New Hampshire, and travel.
In addition to his wife Claire, he is survived by his children Kara Sue Ranney and her husband Jon of Iowa and Scott T. Cummings of Easton; three grandchildren Kayla, Sean and Kevin Ranney; a sister MaryLou Cummings of West Roxbury, Joseph Cummings and his wife Peggy of Norton and James Cummings and his wife Marguerite of Norwood. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Larry was the brother of the late John and Edwin Cummings.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Sunday 2-6pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home Monday at 8am for a funeral Mass in Christ the King Parish at 9am. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery.
