BELLINGHAM: Amy Sue (Podufaly) Thurston, 61, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family at the Stanley Tippett Home on November 17, 2015 following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
She was born in Boston on December 31, 1953 the daughter of the late Arline (Gilfenbain) Shaw.
Amy was the beloved wife for 23 years of Richard P. “Dick” Thurston of Bellingham. Mother of Brian L. Johnson of Framingham and Jared K. Johnson of Holliston. Step-mother of Jerilyn A. Houlding and her husband Brian of Norfolk and James R. Thurston and his wife Ashley of Natick. Sister of Alan Podufaly and his wife Laura of West Palm Beach, FL; Donna Goldsmith of Los Angeles, CA; Mitchell Podufaly and his wife Kristin of Newton and Debra Imbimbo and her husband Steven of Bellingham. Daughter-in-law of Paul Thurston of Holliston. Grandmother of Hayden, Aubrey and Kelsey Houlding and Evan Johnson. Aunt of Jennifer Louisell, Danielle Goldsmith, Sara and Anne Podufaly and Arley Imbimbo.
Amy has been a resident of Bellingham for over 23 years and spent her formative years in Newton. She graduated from Newton South High School with the Class of 1971 and attended Bryman Medical School. Amy has had a career as a Medical Office Manager for many years within the medical community in the metrowest area prior to her recent illness. She always remained optimistic and stoic throughout her recent challenges and with a positive attitude and smile on her face. She loved to spend time with her husband and family, especially entertaining at a moments notice and was well known for her many parties throughout the years. She was an accomplished cook and also enjoyed the time spent in her flower and vegetable gardens at her home. She will be fondly remembered and loved by all who knew her.
Visitations will be held on Friday, November 20, 2015 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Rte 30), Wayland.
Her funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 1:00 pm at the Chapel at Newton Cemetery, 791 Walnut Street, Newton Center.
In lieu of flowers, her family kindly suggests that memorial gifts in Amy’s memory be sent to the Stanley Tippett Home, 920 South Street, Needham, MA 02492 and would be greatly appreciated.
