Maryann Mellon McDermott, age 55, of Norton, formerly of Canton, passed away comfortably at home, surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday, November 18, 2015. She was the beloved wife of John R. McDermott.
Born in Norwood, MA on February 25, 1960, she was a loving daughter of the late Joseph T. and Georgia J. (Williamson) Mellon.
Maryann grew up in Canton and was a 1978 graduate of Canton High School. She furthered her studies and was a graduate of the former Blue Hills Technical Institute.
For the past 19 years she worked as a lab technician and served in many other capacities at the Norton Medical Center in Norton. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Norton and had made her home in Norton for the past 25 years.
Maryann’s favorite times by far where those spent with her adoring family. She loved trips to the beach and especially taking in the beauty of the Cape Cod Canal.
She enjoyed socializing with others while attending her children’s sporting events and spending times with her beloved dog “Kiley”, which included walks through the neighborhood (The Jungle).
Maryann was a gentle and kind woman and will always be remembered by her family for her beautiful blue eyes, with just a touch of bling.
In addition to her beloved husband, she is survived by her devoted and loving children John “Jay” McDermott, Thomas G. McDermott and Colleen M. McDermott all of Norton. She was the dear sister of Joseph T. Mellon of Bridgewater, Karen Mellon-Gavigan and her husband Jay of Berkley, and is also survived by many cherished nieces and nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.
Her Funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Tuesday, November 24th at 9:00 A.M. from the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton, followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 1 Power St., Norton. Burial will follow at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canto
Visiting hours will be held on Monday November 23rd from 5-8 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, Maryann’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to the MSPCA, 1300 West Elm Street Ext, Brockton, MA 02302.
