Otilia C. Oliveira, 81, of New Bedford died Tuesday November 17, 2015 at home after a long illness. She was the wife of Joao Araujo.
Born in Brava, Cape Verde, the daughter of the late Joao Oliveira and Izaura DaCosta, she came to the United States in 1960, living in Canton and Brockton for many years before moving to New Bedford 16 years ago.
She was a communicant of St. Julie Billiart Church.
Mrs. Oliveira was formerly employed by the Morse Shoe Company until her retirement.
She is survived by her husband Joao; her daughter, Maria G. Fortes; her siblings, Humberto C. Oliveira, Zulmira Couto, Helena Fernandes, and Edith Tavares; two grandchildren, Robert Fortes and Jennifer Pires; five great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, including Daniella and Maria Couto who were special to her; and many cousins.
Her Funeral will be held on Monday at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at St. Julie Billiart Church, Dartmouth at 10 AM.
