Robert P. “Doc” Moritz of Canton passed away November 16th at the Copley at Stoughton surrounded by his loving family. Born in Dorchester, he was raised in St. William’s Parrish in Savin Hill and graduated from Commerce High School and Massachusetts School of Optometry and was an Army veteran of WW II. Doc lived in Canton for over 60 years and was an Optometrist in the town for over 50 years and retired in 2008. He was a member and past president of the Canton Lions Club and was the recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award from Lions Club International. He was also a member of the Canton Knights of Columbus, past president and member of the Ponkapoag Civic Assn, Former School Committee member, a CCD Teacher, Eucharistic minister and Lector at St. John the Evangelist Church, a member of the American Legion Post #24 in Canton, and a former member and president of the Fontbonne Father’s Club. Over and above these organizations, Bob volunteered for countless other civic organizations. He loved to dance, travel, and was an avid sports fan and loved to play tennis, ski and golf. Beloved husband of the late Dorothy (Moran) and Florence (Shannon). Father of Kathleen M. Costantino and her husband Edward of Lynn, Mary Bradshaw and her husband Bruce of Nashua, N.H. and Robert P. Jr. and his wife Deidre of Canton. He was predeceased by 6 brothers and sisters. Also survived by 8 grandchildren and 2 great granddaughters. Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home 455 Washington St. Canton Friday 4-8 pm. Funeral mass at St. John the Evangelist Church Canton Saturday morning at 9:00. Burial St. Mary’s Cemetery, Canton.
