Obituary

WORCESTER: Gerald E. “Jerry” Murray, Sr., 79, died Friday, November 13, 2015 at UMass Memorial Medical Center - University Campus, after a brief illness. His wife of 32 years, Janice M. (Krenz) Murray, died December 1, 2003. He leaves two sons, Gerald E. Murray, Jr. and his wife Tamara of Denver, CO., Brendan A. Murray and his wife Tanja Murray Laden of North Hollywood, CA, a daughter, Catherine M. Murray and her husband Alan R. Punsky of Worcester; a sister, Margaret “Peggy” Di Dio of Boise, ID; a granddaughter, MacKenzie T. Murray of Denver; a grandson Jackson Murray of Denver; and many nieces and nephews.
He was born in Harvey, Illinois, son of the late Thomas F. and Margaret M. (McLaughlin) Murray. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade High School and lived here most of his life. After graduation he served in the Marines Corps.
Jerry worked as a driver for the Worcester Regional Transit Authority for 32 years until retiring in 2000. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church and the Worcester Elks Lodge #243. He enjoyed candlepin bowling at Colonial Lanes on Mill Street, spending time in Maine and New Hampshire, westerns, a nice cold beer, Jameson’s neat, and watching Fox News.
CALLING HOURS are 5 to 8 P.M. on WEDNESDAY, NOV. 18, in KELLY FUNERAL HOME, 154 Lincoln St. A FUNERAL MASS will be held on THURSDAY, NOV. 19, at 12 NOON in BLESSED SACRAMENT CHURCH, 555 Pleasant St., followed by burial in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton, MA.
