Obituary

Hanson - George W. Dupree 87 of Hanson, formerly a longtime resident of Whitman, died Thursday November 12 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of sixty-four years to Verna (Bicknell) Dupree.

Born in Brockton and raised in Whitman he was the son of the late Duncan F. and Eleanor (Curtis) Dupree and a graduate of Whitman High School.

George had attended Wentworth Institute prior to enlisting in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict where he had served as Staff Sergeant and Fire Marshall from 1950-1953.

Prior to his retirement, George was employed by the Brockton Edison Company where he worked for forty years.

He was an active member of the Whitman Community having served on the Whitman Finance Committee and the Whitman Centennial Committee. He was also a member of the Odd Fellows, the Jaycees, the Hanson Rod & Gun Club and the Hanson AA.

In addition to his wife Verna he is survived by his loving children Lynne Twomey and her husband John of Brownfield, ME., Steven Dupree and his wife Jennifer of Naples, ME and Paula Cheverie and her husband Richard of Pembroke and his sister Eleanor Otis of Gwynedd, PA. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Benjamin Fletcher and Heidi Gavin of Hanson, Gregory Fletcher and Kerrie Heath of Oxford, ME, Richard Cheverie and his wife Amanda of Plympton, JoAnna Letourneau and her husband Douglas of Pembroke, Lauren Gould and her husband Scott of Tewksbury, Erica Dupree, Brett Dupree and Evan Dupree all of Marion and his great grandchildren Ryan Fletcher, Ella Fletcher, Allison Cheverie and Henry Gould, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Duncan Dupree and Emily Dupree.

Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours to be held on Thursday November 19 from 3:00-7:00 PM followed by a Memorial Service at 7:00 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. A private burial will be held at a later date.
