Leonard J. White, age 66, of Mansfield passed away on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. He was the beloved husband of Carol A. (McDonnell) White to whom he was wed for 41 years.
Born in Boston, MA on November 7, 1949, he was a loving son of the late Andrew Cloutier and Barbara (McGrath) White.
Lenny grew up and was educated in South Boston. He faithfully served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged from active duty on March 30, 1970 with the rank of Lance Corporal.
A resident of Mansfield for the past 28 years, Mr. White was a retired custodian having worked for 24 years for the City of Boston School Department. He previously resided in Dedham.
Lenny was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield and a member and adjutant of the John Edward McNeill American Legion Post 217 in Plainville. He was also a member of the DAV.
Lenny’s favorite times by far were those spent in the presence of his adoring family; especially with the grandchildren He also loved working in his yard.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his devoted children Shannon M. Fish and her husband Thomas of Attleboro, Sherry A. Owens and her husband Matthew of Seekonk, and Sean A. White and his wife Stephanie of Attleboro. He was the cherished grandfather of Ashley, Haley, Brenna and Kilie Fish, Colin and Brayden Owens and Gavin White. He was the dear brother of Andrea Hourihan and her husband Paul of Walpole and the late Donald White, Maryellen White, Barbara Finn and Bernice Christensen. He is also survived by his mother in law Grace (McHugh) McDonnell of Attleboro, as well as many nieces and nephews.
His funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 17th at 11:30 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial with military honors will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery Cemetery in Bourne at 2:15 P.M.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, November 16th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
Due to the limitation of flowers allowed at the national cemetery, Leonard’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Brigham and Women’s Hospital Family Fund for Pulmonary and Critical Care Lung Transplant, 75 Francis Street, Boston, MA 02115.
