Obituary

J. Michael “Mick” Janelli age 66 of Brockton died Wednesday November 11, 2015 surrounded by his family after a brief period of failing health. He was the devoted husband for 45 years of Barbara J. (Sullivan) Janelli.
Mick was born in Jersey City, New Jersey and raised in Leonia, New Jersey. The son of the late John and Eileen (Skilton) Janelli, he had made his home in Brockton for the past 35 years. He was a 1971 graduate of Stonehill College where he was a member of their basketball team. He later earned his Master’s Degree in Education from Northeastern University and his CAGS from UMass, Boston.
Mick began his lengthy career in education as a teacher at Brockton High School. He continued on as an administrator in the West Bridgewater school system, principal in Sandwich and retired as Superintendent of Wrentham Public Schools in 2006.
Mick was a member of several educational associations including Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents, American Association of School Administrators, American School Curriculum Development, former President of BICO Collaborative and the Just 12 Superintendent Group. He was also active in the Stonehill College Alumni Association, the Stonehill College Century Club, Amnesty International, and the Democratic National Committee.
In addition to being an avid Celtics fan, Mick enjoyed following politics, reading, traveling and the beach. Most importantly, Mick’s true joy in life was his family especially spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two loving sons Joshua Janelli and his wife Laura of Stoughton and Benjamin Janelli and his wife Kimberly of Brighton. He leaves his two cherished grandchildren Sara Jane and Elizabeth Grace Janelli, and his two sisters Judy Janelli of Nantucket and Jeanne Belock and her husband Ed of New Jersey. He leaves his mother-in-law Jeanne Sullivan of Mansfield, his sisters-in-law Eileen Sullivan of Norwood, Maureen and David Dunn of Mansfield, Beth and Brad Johnson of Hopkinton, brothers-in-law Mark and Paige Sullivan of Byfield and Paul and Beth Sullivan of Newburyport, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (rte. 123) Brockton on Friday 4-8pm. The procession will gather at the funeral home on Saturday at 8am for a funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 9am. Burial will be at a later date.
