Obituary

Dale Wayne Osborn

Ventura, CA

Dale Wayne Osborn of Jay, Oklahoma died the morning of Monday, November 9th 2015 in Ventura, California due to a cardiac event while walking his dog as he did every day. He was 77.

Born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma on July 12, 1938 to Verl and Fern Osborn, he grew up to love the outdoors whether camping with the Boy Scouts or learning to hunt with the extended Osborn family. He graduated from Central High School in Tulsa before earning an engineering degree from Oklahoma State University in August of 1960.

Shortly after graduation he entered Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida earning first in class in academics and a commission with the United States Navy. While on active duty he was attached to VF-96 "Fighting Falcons" deploying to the western Pacific flying missions from the USS Ranger, CV-61. In 1964, he went to work for Hughes Aircraft Company where he brought his knowledge and experience with the navy to the defense industry working on weapon systems. He retired 1985.

Throughout his life Dale loved to be outdoors. He spent years sailing off the coast of Southern California. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with friends and family. He would bicycle the 12 miles to work. He played tennis and golf throughout the year. He spent so much time outdoors after retirement his long distance vision actually improved. In later years, he divided the seasons between Ventura, California and Oklahoma. This allowed him to visit extended family and fish in Oklahoma, and return to California for duck hunting season. He always had a hunting dog with him and was considered highly skilled at training dogs for the field. He thought himself very blessed to be so active his entire life.

A quiet man, he enjoyed reading, particularly history. He had the ability to artfully craft humor within serious correspondence. He was often involved with Bible studies at church where he helped out in numerous small ways. He volunteered with Food Share gleaning from farms throughout Ventura County to support the local food bank. All who knew him considered him the best of company to be around.

He is survived by his wife Stephanie Osborn of Camarillo, California; the mother of his son, Donna Lakey of Hollister, Missouri; his son Stephen Scott Osborn, daughter-in-law Jane Osborn, and two grandchildren: Owen and Oliver Osborn all of whom live in Carmichael, California.

A memorial to celebrate the life of Dale is to be held on Saturday, November 21st from 1:00 to 3:30 at the home of long-time friend Karen Dowty, 690 Colina Vista, Ventura, California. Family and friends are invited. Arrangements are entrusted to the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, 757 E. Main Street Ventura. -
