Obituary

SHREWSBURY-Derek W. Morton, 90, formerly of Uncatena Avenue, Worcester, died Thursday, November 5, 2015 at Shrewsbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by his loving family.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Beryl (Dent) Morton; a son, John J. Morton of Manchester, England; three daughters, Julie E. Burgoyne, wife of William Burgoyne of Worcester, Diane L. Register of Santa Monica, CA and Jacquelyn T. Feliciano, wife of Jose Feliciano of Worcester. He also leaves eight grandchildren, Emma Barre, Shawn Burgoyne, Mathieu Morton, Sarah Burgoyne, Julie Sears, Jennifer Burgoyne, Ian Register and Zackary Feliciano and nine great grandchildren. He was predeceased by three brothers, Reginald and John Morton and Alan Morton, who died at the age of 4, all of Manchester, England.

He was born and raised in Manchester, England, son of John J. and May (Warrington) Morton and moved to the United States on April 6, 1968. Mr. Morton was a veteran of the Lancashire Regiment of the British Army and served in Far East Burma as a postman during World War II. He worked as a master machinist for several companies, including Worcester Envelope for many years before retiring in 1991. Mr. Morton was a longtime member of St. Michael's on the Heights Episcopal Church. He was a champion dart player and enjoyed jigsaw puzzles.

Mr. Morton's family would like to thank the Jewish Healthcare Hospice nurses and the staff at Shrewsbury Nursing Center for the wonderful care they provided.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, November 10 from 5-7 pm at FAY BROTHERS Funeral Home, 1 West Boylston Street, West Boylston. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Wednesday, November 11 at St. Michael's on the Heights Episcopal Church, 340 Burncoat Street, Worcester. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
