Obituary

Catherine C. “Katie” (Lanigan) Homer, age 69, of Brockton, died on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2015 at her home from breast cancer. She was the loving wife of Michael R. “Ron” Homer for 47 years. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Richard W. and Margaret C. (Scanlan) Lanigan. Katie was a survivor, a woman of limitless strength of body and spirit, and above all, character. Katie’s life was dedicated to education, particularly in and through the church. For many years, Katie served as the religious education director at St. Margaret of Scotland Parish in Brockton until it closed in 2004. She then worked with the first communion and baptismal programs at Our Lady of Lourdes parish, as well as the Ministry of Consolation serving all three churches of the Brockton Tri Parish. Totally dedicated to her four children and her ten grandchildren, Katie was the beloved center of a very large extended family. Nana to her grandchildren and an aunt to scores of nieces and nephews, Katie leaves behind a host of friends and relatives.
In addition to her husband Ron, she is survived by her children, Michael R. Homer, Jr. and his wife Eileen B. of Brockton, Sarah E. Jennings and her husband Peter C. of Concord, Rachel A. Hepp and her husband Jason D. of Westford, and Jared A. Homer and his wife Lindsay J. of Brockton; grandchildren, Wesley and Scott Homer; Ellen, Hayden and Noah Jennings; Giuliana and Caleb Hepp; and Edward, Lucy and Georgia Homer; and two sisters Mary M. Rothwell of Stoughton and Rita M. Trotta of Sharon. She was the sister- in-law of Paul, Daniel, Leonard, Lawrence, Edward, Winthrop “Jay” Homer, Mary Homer, Danielle Bowker, Virginia Somers, Sheila Jenkins, Leanne Cataldo and the late John Homer and Sheryl Homer.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Tuesday 4-8pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home Wednesday at 9:30am for a funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 10:30am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. The family asks that any donations in Katie’s name be made to Trinity Catholic Academy of Brockton, 37 Erie Avenue, Brockton, MA 02302 or the Religious Education Program at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, 439 West Street, Brockton, MA 02301.
