Ronald Earl Corbitt, Jr.

Augusta, GA – Ronald Earl Corbitt, Jr., son of Ronald Earl Corbitt and Mary Delle Sanford Corbitt was born in Augusta, Georgia, on August 21, 1942.

He received his Bachelor of Industrial Engineering from The Georgia Institute of Technology where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity.


Ronnie served in the United States Army in Vietnam from 1966-1967. As a Lieutenant, he was decorated with the National Defense Service Medal,
the Vietnam Service Medal, Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and Parachutist Badge.

Upon returning to the United States, he earned his Master of Science in Industrial Management also from Georgia Tech. In the early 1970’s, he was a stockbroker with Merrill Lynch in their Atlanta, Georgia office.

For thirty years he was a real estate developer and consultant in South Florida where he was President of South Broward Utilities, and Vice President of Ivanhoe Land Investment, Inc. and Mode, Inc. A licensed real estate broker, he served as Secretary of the South Broward Drainage District Board, a political subdivision of the State of Florida, where he received an award in recognition and appreciation of his dedication and outstanding service to the public as a member of the Board of Supervisors; he ultimately served as a certified neutral umpire in insurance disputes.

For seven years, he was treasurer of The Beach Colony Club as well as a board member of the Cocoplum Civic Association. He and his family resided in Coral Gables, Florida for over twenty five years before moving to Dallas,Texas five years ago.

His passion was golf and he enjoyed the moniker, “Sweet Swinging Ronnie”. The epitome of a true Southern gentleman with a keen wit and generous, heart, he had a deep faith in God, devotion to family and a positive attitude of always seeing “the glass as half full”; these qualities will be treasured by all who knew and loved him.

He passed away peacefully on October 26, 2015 surrounded by his family, after suffering a rare brain disease. He is survived by his devoted, cherished, wife of 43 years, Aurelia Francis Corbitt, In addition to his wife, he is survived by his loving, daughter, Camilla Dowling Corbitt Hazelton, her husband, John Stephen Hazelton, Jr., grandson, John Stephen Hazelton, III (Trey). He is also survived by his sister, Mary Corbitt Blount, Augusta, Georgia; mother-in-law, Louise Dowling Francis; sister- in- law, Camilla Francis Hertwig; brother-in-law, Ed Hertwig; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Francis, all of Greenville, South Carolina; Carolyn Francis Bryant, Garden City, South Carolina; brother-in-law, Michael Francis and sister in law, Tracy Francis, Snellville, Georgia as well as many wonderful, nieces and nephews. Additionally, two special cousins, Dr. William Cason Bruker of Aiken, South Carolina and Davenport Sanford Bruker (Dee) and his wife, Karen, Augusta, Georgia.

On Thursday, November 5, the family will receive friends from 10am-11am in the Westover Memorial Park, Augusta, Georgia, Office Building Visitation Room prior to the 11am graveside service officiated by Dr. J. R. Robinson.
