Obituary

John D. Murphy Sr., 82, died October 31, 2015 after a lengthy illness.

A Coast Guard veteran of the Korean War, John worked for many years for Eastern Airlines, both as an aviation mechanic and a pilot. An expert ham radio operator, he volunteered at the Massachusetts Hospital School in Canton, sharing his hobby and his skill with the young patients there. He was also an active volunteer with Canton Youth Hockey.

John showed enormous strength and perseverance in the face of his debilitating illness, and was an inspiration to those who loved him. His family is deeply grateful for the warm, compassionate care he received over the past eight years from the devoted staff of the Bay Point Nursing Home, whom he viewed as his second family.

Father of the late Kristen Murphy, John is survived by his loving wife of 45 years Marthea “Marty“ D. Murphy (Willett), his daughter Joan Bastian of Braintree, and his son John D. Murphy Jr. of Canton. John was the proud grandfather of Gabi Farulla-Bastian, Drew, Cole, and Luke Willett, and is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours in the Roache-Pushard Family Funeral Home 210 Sherman St. Tuesday November 3rd from 3-7 PM. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 AM in the Immanuel Baptist Church 92 Alger St., Brockton, MA. Interment Canton Corner Cemetery.
