New Bedford – Jose Rodrigues Amaral, age 72, passed away on Friday, October 30, 2015 at the St Luke’s Hospital. He was the loving husband of Lina Rosa (Luis) Amaral and the son of Clara (Rodrigues) and Joao Joaquim Amaral. He was born in Flamengos, Fayal, Azores, moved to this country 47 years ago and was employed as a machine operator at Dartmouth Finishing. He also worked as a Floor Coveror at Furniture City and was a self employed Carpet Installer.
He is survived by his wife, Lina Rosa Amaral of Dartmouth; a son, Walter Luis Amaral and his wife, Jennifer, of Florida; 3 grandchildren: Nathan Amaral, Austin Amaral and Sydney J. Amaral; siblings: Aida Silveira and her late husband, Jose, of Fayal, Lucia Oliveira and her husband, Eduviges Oliveira of New Bedford, Maria da Luz Moreira and her husband, Jaime, of Lisbon; his sister in laws: Elisa Pereira and her husband Antonio, Georgina Reis and her husband John, Rose Rocha and her husband Manuel, Maria Pereira and her husband Manuel and Hortense Magerowski and her husband Rich, a daughter in law, Cristina Amaral; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Jose was predeceased by his son, Normando L. Amaral.
His funeral will be Tuesday morning beginning in the funeral home at 9:30 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Monday evening from 5 – 8 P.M. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford, MA.
