Obituary

GILFORD, N.H. - Muriel E. Johnson of Gilford, N.H., died Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015 at 98.
She was born in Somerville, the daughter of William and Annie Stafford Watts, and lived in Attleboro and South Attleboro before moving to New Hampshire in 1986.
She married Vincent S. Johnson in 1942 and traveled to various posts across the country to his military assignments with their baby. They were married for 48 years until his death in 1990.
She graduated from Attleboro High School and Tabbot-Hubbard Business School. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women and The Secretaries of America as well as the St. Andrew Society in New Hampshire.
Prior to her retirement, Muriel was employed by Massachusetts Electric (now National Grid), as an executive secretary in consumer services. She was also a teacher at Little Folks School in Attleboro. Once retired, she was employed at the gift shop of the Mount Washington Cruise Ship Co. on Lake Winnipesaukee.
She was a gourmet cook, who dazzled friends and family with her delicious meals. In her youth, she had been an expert skier, whose flaming red hair often caught the eyes of cameramen on Mount Mansfield. In her retirement, she took painting lessons from Loren Percy, and her very first effort took first prize in a contest.
She leaves behind her daughter, Sally Kallstrom of Chatham and her son, Duane Johnson of Gilford. She was affectionately known as "Grancie" to her five grandchildren: Thyra Guillmette of New Haven, Vt., Ingrid Bosco of Leominster, Maxwell Johnson of Portland, Maine, Meredith Dudley of Rye, N.H., and Rebecca Johnson of Rye.
In her later years, she enjoyed reconnecting with childhood friend Raymond Brogan.
Since Muriel had a love for all children, she requested contributions can be made in her memory to the Home for Little Wanderers Development Department, 10 Guest St., Boston, MA 02135
Burial will be Sunday, Nov. 1 at 1 p.m. in Newell Burying Grounds, 1502 West St., Attleboro, MA 02703.
