Robert L. Bickel, age 57, of Hanover passed away after a lengthy illness on Wednesday, October 21, 2015. Bob was born in New Bedford then raised and educated in Weymouth. Immediately after graduating Weymouth schools he worked as a painter and paper hanger. Bob was a hard worker, learning the trade quickly and soon starting his own business that he worked for over 30 years. Although he worked hard, he loved escaping to Florida in the winter, visiting his son Nick on the Cape, and watching/going to Red Sox games. Bob was also an Honorary Member of the KoC in S. Weymouth and was known for his fun, outgoing personality.
Robert was the beloved father to Nicholas Bickel of Marshfield and the late Russel Bickel. Cherished son of Alice Bickel (Anderson) and the late Donald Bickel. Loving brother to Maxine Steel of Abington, Donna Bickel of Rockland, Darrell Bickel and his wife Barbara of Hanson, Paula Bickel of Abington, Laurie O’Neill and her husband James of Rockland, and the late Carole Abbott. Grandfather to Cameron and Benjamin. Bob is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours for Bob on Friday October 30, 2015 from 4-6pm in the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) S. Weymouth 02190. A service in honor of Bob’s life will be held in the funeral home immediately following the visitation at 6pm. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Dennis, MA and will be at a later date. Donations in Lieu of flowers may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association of MA at 33 Lyman St, Westborough, MA 01581.
