Fairhaven – Irene da Conceicao (Cabral) Carvalho, age 88 of Fairhaven, formerly of New Bedford, died on October 26, 2015 at Alden Court Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a period of declining health. She was the wife of the late Manuel P. Carvalho.
Born in Ajuda, Bretanha, St. Michael, Azores, she was the daughter of the late Maria Rosa (Pereira) and Mariano Cabral. Prior to her retirement, she worked at Lorraine and Tim Sportswear. She loved to sew, garden and, most of all, spend time with her family.
She is survived by 3 children: Maria Goretti Macedo and her husband, Carlos, of New Bedford, Maria Natalia Rafferty and her husband, Thomas, of Dartmouth, and Jose M. Carvalho and his wife, Diane, of Hawaii formerly of Wareham. She was the grandmother of Kelly Miranda, Christine Garcia, Jessica Carvalho, Jennifer Stewart, Thomas J. Rafferty, Jr. and Kevin Rafferty; and the great grandmother of Ellyana, Ellysa, Giana and Aria. She also leaves behind her siblings, Raimundo Cabral of New Bedford and Maria Rosa dos Santos of St. Michael, Azores.
She was predeceased by her siblings: Rosa Medeiros, Luis Cabral, Antonio Cabral and Joao Cabral.
Her funeral will be Thursday beginning in the funeral home at 9:30 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will take place Wednesday evening from 6 – 8 P.M. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral home, 111 Dartmouth St. New Bedford.
