Obituary

Mary (MacRoberts) Maguder age 97 passed away peacefully on October 22, 2015 at Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Mary graduated high school in Atlantic City, New Jersey. While working In New York, she met and married Lawrence Massachusetts native John Maguder. They returned to south Lawrence at the outset of WWII, and while John went off to war, Mary learned to drive and went off to work at General Electric in Lynn. Eventually, they settled in Methuen and Mary developed a career and earned retirement from the Internal Revenue Service in Andover. Mary loved animals, music, travel, English literature, and generally approached life with gentle good humor. A Sunday well spent included a dog, cat, and cup of tea by her side while she confidently completed the Times crossword in ink. Among her summer neighbors on Plum Island, she was the source for solving knotty puzzle clues. Never quick to assume or intrude, Mary unfailingly helped when asked. Where others strive to make their mark, her goal was ever to tread lightly. Yet by her quiet example, Mary did leave her mark on all who took the time to know her. She will be missed.

Mary was the beloved wife of the late John Maguder with whom she shared 58 years of marriage. She was the devoted mother of Jane LaBranche of Methuen. Mary was the beloved aunt of Lisbeth Agius and her husband Joe, Roberta Simmons and her partner Leon Marchand. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who provided Mary great affection and practical care.
