Edith M. (Stonequist) Soderstrom, 94, a resident of Davis Place in Danielson, died Sunday, October 18, 2015, at the Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam. Edith was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, daughter of Swedish immigrants, Mary (Johnson) and John Stonequist. Her husband of 42 years, Edwin D. Soderstrom, died in 1994. Edith leaves two sons, Alan E. Soderstrom and his wife Kathy of Sandwich, MA and Carl E. Soderstrom of Thompson, CT. She leaves six grandchildren, Eric Soderstrom, and his wife Erin of Sandwich, MA, Christa Danolowicz and her husband Brian of Providence, RI, Kyle Soderstrom and his wife, Danielle of Ft Drum, NY, Ashley Soderstrom of Thompson, CT, Markus Soderstrom and Maeson Soderstrom of Woodstock CT, and a great grandson, Eero Soderstrom of Sandwich, MA. She leaves two nieces, Barbara Menard of Leicester, MA and Nancy Girouard of Upton, MA. She also leaves several close, long-time friends.
Edith was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, Worcester, Massachusetts. Edith graduated from Worcester Public Schools. Before having children, Edith worked at Worcester Five Cents Savings Bank. She also sold Avon products while raising her two sons. Edith volunteered at The Lutheran Home and The Salvation Army in Worcester. She was also an avid knitter making countless hats, mittens and blankets for family, friends and charities. She was an excellent baker known for her Swedish coffee cakes and pastries.
Funeral services will be held at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Worcester, MA on Friday, October 23, at 11:00 a.m. A calling hour will be held at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in All Faiths Cemetery, Worcester. Memorial donations may be made to Emanuel Lutheran Church, 200 Greenwood Street, Worcester MA 01607.
