BERKLEY – Elinor J. (Vogelzang) Martin, wife of the late Dennis F. Martin, died at the Hannah B. G. Shaw Home in Middleboro, on Oct. 3, 2015.
She was 84.
Born in Portland Township, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Frank F. and Frances K. (Schumacher) Vogelzang.
Raised and educated in Iowa, she was a graduate of Central High School in Sioux City.
Elinor loved growing up on her family’s Iowa farm.
She and her husband met while he was stationed at a nearby air base, later moving to the Berkley area in 1954.
Employed as an artist by Taunton’s New York Lace Store, she loved art and was an avid gardener.
Elinor worked on the committee of the former Morton Hospital Building Fund.
With a positive attitude, she could often be heard saying, “Be happy go lucky”.
Survivors include her son, Tom L. Martin of Taunton, 2 daughters, Susan L. Martin of Acton and Nancy J. Martin of Berkley; a brother, Frank H. Vogelzang of Sioux City; 3 sisters, Carmen L. Groth of Sioux City, Joyce E. Gronemeyer and Mary Lou Ross, both of LeMars, IA; her daughter-in-law, Cheryl Martin of Exton, PA; 3 grandchildren, Tom Martin, Jr. of TX, Erin Martin of PA; and Colleen Martin of NY; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also the mother of the late David F. Martin and the grandmother of the late Tara and Lauren Martin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Bernard’s Church in Assonet on Saturday, Oct. 10th at 10 a.m.
Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Taunton.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday, Oct. 9th from 5 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
