HAVERHILL: Gloria A. Viola, 88, died Sunday, October 4, 2015 at Haverhill Crossings.
Born in Madbury, New Hampshire on June 13, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Marino and Letizia (Belmonte) Viola. She was a lifelong resident of Haverhill and attended Haverhill schools. Gloria worked as a secretary for the former Western Electric in North Andover until her retirement.
She was a talented artist who enjoyed painting landscapes and won several awards for her work. Gloria also loved to sew and make handmade braided rugs. A favorite pastime of hers was tending to her flower garden.
She is survived by her sister, Emma Metcalf of Haverhill and her daughters, Linda Metcalf and Karen Mann and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her brother, John Viola and her sisters, Armida Duprey and Madeline DiMambro.
A funeral Mass for Gloria will be celebrated on Wednesday in St. John the Baptist Church, 114 Lincoln Avenue, Haverhill at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be held in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Haverhill. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant St, Watertown, MA 02472.
