COX, Ruth (Barry), 76, of West Roxbury, passed peacefully surrounded by family on September 28th. Ruth was a graduate of Notre Dame Academy and received her BA degree in English from Emmanuel College as well as certificate of completion from Radcliffe College. Ruth married Tom Cox of Waltham MA in 1964. Tom at the time was an active duty officer in the US Navy which provided the couple the opportunity to live in many places throughout the US, including Hawaii, California, Connecticut and Virginia. Post Navy, Ruth managed her household in Scituate, MA where with the help of Tom, she raised her two children, Ray and Mary. In the early 1990’s Ruth and family moved back to her family home in West Roxbury to care for her mother. During this time, Ruth began working for the Archdiocese of Boston. She served as an administrative assistant to the Director of the Pastoral Institute, a job she thoroughly enjoyed for more than 25 years. Ruth was the daughter of the late Dr. John R. Barry and Ruth Keleher Barry and wife of the late Thomas P. Cox. Ruth is survived by her son Raymond Cox and wife Joan P. Cox of Rumford, RI and her daughter, Mary Kenny and her husband Mark Kenny of Plymouth, MA. Ruth is also survived by her brothers, John R. Barry Jr and family and Dr. Phillip Barry and family. Ruth’s passion for the Red Sox was only surpassed by her love of her grandchildren, Johnny, Emme, Jack, Katie, Tommy and Will. Visiting Hours will be held at Gormley Funeral Home, 2055 Centre Street, West Roxbury on Friday October 2nd from 4pm to 8pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday October 3rd at St. Theresa of Avila Church at 11:30 am with burial at Holyhood Cemetery, Brookline Ma immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ruth’s name to: Clergy Health and Retirement Trust, Archdiocese of Boston, 66 Brooks Drive, Braintree, MA 02184.
