Mrs. June I. (Fettes) McGowan, a resident of Tewksbury, formerly of Billerica and Andover, passed away peacefully at the SalemHaven Nursing Center in Salem, New Hampshire, on Sunday, September 27, 2015. June was the beloved wife of the late Thomas W. McGowan. She was 88 years old.
Born In Andover, Massachusetts, on June 23, 1927, she was the beloved daughter of Charles and Marion (Nicoll) Fettes, both immigrants from Arbroath, Scotland. Mrs. McGowan was a graduate of Punchard High School in Andover, Class of 1945. She had been employed by the Millipore Corporation in Bedford, MA and was an Assistant in the Media Program at the Andover Public School system. In her spare time, Mrs. McGowan enjoyed playing Bingo with her dear friend Liz. She also loved the beach, shopping and going on day trips with her family. She was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. Above all, June was a very devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her loving children; Mary M. and her husband Daniel A. Zukowski of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Kathleen J. and her husband Paul R. Baroni of Windham, New Hampshire, Patricia M. and her husband David A. Stefanelli of Hampstead, New Hampshire and Thomas M. and his wife Deborah A. McGowan of Newton, New Jersey; sister, Joan M. Fettes and Dolores Dooling of Atkinson, New Hampshire; ten cherished grandchildren, Peter, Brian, Luke, Neal, Nick, Mark, Andrew, Danny, Kevin and Meghan.; one adored great-grandchild, Aria; and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her eight siblings; James, Evelyn, Dorothy, Marion, Hank, Edith, Muriel and Florence.
Her funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 198 Haggett's Pond Road, Andover on Friday, October 2, 2015, at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Calling hours will be held in the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 North Main Street, Andover, on Thursday, October 1, 2015, from 4 to 8 PM. Interment will be held in Spring Grove Cemetery in Andover.
