TEWKSBURY – Margaret E. “Peggy” (Pace) Celata, age 93, a former long time East Boston resident and devout Catholic member of the St. Lazarus Society, died Friday afternoon, September 18, at the Wingate at Belvidere in Lowell, after a seven year period of declining health. She was the beloved wife of the late C. Joseph Celata, a former Boston police officer, who died in 2001.
Peggy was born in Charlestown in July 1922, a daughter of the late William and Rose (Austin) Pace, and was raised by her father and step-mother, the late Mildred (Dwyer)(Pace) Hall. She lived in East Boston and Winthrop the greater part of her life, but retired to Tewksbury for her family support in her twilight years.
Peggy worked at Hanover Insurance in downtown Boston as a clerk until retirement.
She was a devout Catholic as a life member of the Saint Lazarus Society, the Mt. Carmel Society of St. Lazarus, and a member of the Courageous Generation of St. Lazarus.
Peggy leaves her daughter, Pamela Ford and her husband Thomas Ford of Los Angeles, CA; was predeceased by her son, Joseph W. “Joey” Celata; was sister of the late John Wiley, and his wife the late Margaret Wiley; William Pace of Topsfield and his late wife Edna Pace, the late Seaman Robert Pace, U.S.N., who died in the Philippines during WWII, the late Rose Wallace and her husband the late Roy Wallace, the late James “Jim” Pace who is survived by his wife Dorothy (Riddle) Pace of FL, the late Carl Pace and his wife the late Mary “Pinky” Pace, Mary Lou Allen and her husband David of Ormand Beach, FL, Joseph Pace and his wife Nancy (Fiedler) of No. Andover, M. Roberta Deputat and her husband John of Tewksbury, Kathleen Jasilewicz and her husband Michael of Tewksbury; many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews; and dear friends in her Faith Community of St. Lazarus.
Visiting hours Wednesday, September 23, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Rte. 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, Ph.
