Obituary

Worcester - Dimitrios Droumbalas 86, died Wednesday, September 16, 2015 in Texas. He was born in Epirus, Greece in 1929. He was the son of Konstantinos and Ekaterina (Tsoutsi) Droumbalas. The husband of the late Olga (Vangos) Droumbalas who passed in 2001.

Mr. Droumbalas served in the Greek Army and while in Greece, also worked for the Hellenic Telecommunications Organization as a linesman. After moving to Australia and working as a yardmaster for the railroad company for years, he moved to the United States with his family in 1971. He worked as a baker at Table Talk Pies in Worcester and later owned and operated Star Donuts in Athol until his retirement. Mr. Droumbalas was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral.

He is survived by his two children: his daughter Catherine Koulisis and her husband Kostas of Holden, his son Dean Droumbalas and his wife Maria of Texas. His sister Eugenia Kamenou of Greece. His grandchildren: Olga and her husband George Gidopoulos, Gregory and Andrew Koulisis, Demetrios and Evangelia Droumbalas. His Great grandchildren Konstantinos, Alexander, Ellie. His sisters- and brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews both in the United States and in Greece. He was predeceased by his sisters Sophia Vraka and Alexandra Barbatsi with her husband Panagiotis all of Athens, Greece, and his brother-in-law Eleftherios Vangos of West Boyltson.

The funeral is Monday, September 21, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. A calling hour will be held at the church at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Worcester is directing arrangements.
