New Bedford– Maria Leite, age 82, passed away on Friday, September 11, 2015 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the beloved widow of Antonio Leite and the daughter of the late Maria (Xavier) and Francisco Pacheco.
Born in St. Michael, Azores, Mrs. Leite came to this country in 1977 and worked as a Stitcher at Cliftex Co. for many years until her retirement.
Her family includes 9 children: Armanda Goncalo and Antonio Leite, both of Dartmouth, Julia Gabriel of Florida, Tiago Leite of Canada, Aura Medeiros and Jose Leite, both of New Bedford, Henry Leite of Acushnet, John Leite of New Bedford and Denis Leite of Canada; siblings: Rosa Vila of Canada, Honorato Pacheco of Dartmouth, Jose Pacheco of New Bedford, Tiago Pacheco of Providence, RI and the late Conceicao Pine; as well as 18 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be Tuesday morning beginning in the funeral home at 8:00 A.M. and continuing with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday from 5 – 8 P.M. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford, MA.
