Dartmouth – John T. Sylvia, age 91, passed away on Tuesday September 1, 2015 at his home with his loving family by his side. He was the loving husband to Edna M. (Santos) Sylvia and the son of the late Maria (Torres) and John Silva. He was born in New Bedford, spent most of his life in this area and worked for Goodyear Tire factory for many years until his retirement.
PFC John T. Sylvia served our country in the United States Army, was a D-Day Veteran and earned the rank of PFC before being honorably discharge.
He is survived by his wife, Edna Sylvia of Dartmouth; a daughter, Edna M. Carroll and her husband, Eugene of Westport; 2 grandchildren: Christine Carlson and her husband, Cameron of Bristol, RI and Christopher Carroll and his wife, Rachel of Guilford, VT.
There will be visitation for Mr. Sylvia in the funeral home on Thursday morning from 9 – 11 A.M. with a service to begin at 11:00 A.M. Burial with full military honors will follow in Rural Cemetery. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford, MA.
