Obituary

Mr. Robert L. Christiansen, a lifelong resident of Medford, MA and beloved husband to Elizabeth ‘Betsey’ J. (Mason), passed away at the Lahey Hospital in Burlington on the afternoon of Sunday, August 30, 2015. He was 62 years young.

Born October 29, 1952, Rob was the beloved son of the late Charles R. and Virginia M. (Rich) Christiansen. Rob was an Army veteran, entering the military on October 19, 1972 and receiving honorable discharge on October 10, 1974 from Fort Meade (MD). During his service, Mr. Christiansen attained the rank of E-4 and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, amongst others. In civilian life, Rob worked as a Mainframe Operations Analyst for many years. In his spare time, he enjoyed skiing, golfing, spending every moment possible at Newfound Lake, NH, and was an avid fan of all Boston sports teams. He was also a longtime member of bowling leagues at Town Line in Malden

Above all, Rob loved spending time with his family and friends. He will be dearly missed.

In addition to his beloved wife, Betsey, he is survived by his super awesome children: Jonathan M. Christiansen & his fiancé, Ali J. Lewis (both of Los Angeles, CA); Eric J. Christiansen (of Medford); Kevin R. & his wife Melissa C. Christiansen (of West Bridgewater); and Jennifer A. Christiansen (of Los Angeles, CA), as well as many delightful nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was also the brother of the late Donna L. Smith (of Northboro, MA) and adored brother-in-law.

His Memorial Service will be celebrated at the First Community United Methodist Church, 55 Otis Street, Medford on Friday, September 4, 2015, at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend this celebration of his life. Visiting hours will be held in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford on Thursday, September 3, 2015, from 4 to 8 PM. Interment will be privately held. In leu of flowers, the family are encouraging donations in Rob’s memory to the Newfound Lake Region Association, 10 N Main Street, Unit 1, Bristol, New Hampshire 03222 or to Tedy’s Team, care of the American Stroke Association, 300 5th Avenue, Suite 6, Attn: Elizabeth Perry, Waltham, MA 02451.
