Obituary

NATICK: Augustus E. “Gus” Schwehr, age 85, of Natick, died peacefully on Saturday, August 29, 2015, at the MetroWest Medical Center in Natick. He was the devoted husband of Anna L. (Thompson) Schwehr for 46 years.

Born, raised and educated in Dorchester, he was the son of the late Jacob and Mary G. (Smead) Schwehr. He served with the Army in Greenland during the Korean War.

After the Army Gus joined the UWUA Local 369 and was employed with Boston Edison for 42 years, retiring as a construction inspector. When retired, he enjoyed volunteering for Meals on Wheels through the Natick Senior Center.

He had a longtime affiliation with the OFD Club for Men, Natick VFW Post 1274, and the Underground Survivors’ Club. A Civil War buff, Gus spearheaded the recent restoration of the Civil War Memorial on Natick Common with the assistance of his fellow members of the Olde Colony Civil War Round Table.

He is survived by his wife Anna; their three children, Alicia White of Milford, Dana E. Schwehr and wife Heidi of Berlin, and Stephanie J. Walsh and husband Evan of Medfield; six grandchildren, Samantha, Jacob, Nicholas, Ryan, Dylan, and Connor; and many nieces and nephews. His sister, Gloria Whalin, predeceased him.

His funeral will be from the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, on Friday, September 4th at 9:00AM with a Mass of Christian Burial in Saint Linus Church, 119 Hartford Street, Natick, at 10:00AM. Burial will follow at Dell Park Cemetery.
