Obituary

Manuel J. “Mickey” Vieira, age 92, of Somerset, passed away on August 29, 2015. He was the husband of Mary D. (DeFaria) Vieira, and son of the late Manuel J. and Mary (Medeiros) Vieira. Manuel was a U.S. Army Air Corps Tech Sergeant and WWII Veteran, EX POW in Stalag Luft I, Barth Germany, a furniture finisher and shipper for American Furniture, a Master Gas Fitter and a Licensed Second Class Fireman in Accordance with the Commonwealth of MA. And a graduate of Bradford Durfee College of Technology. Manuel was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Post 3669 in Swansea, D.A.V., a Blood Officer for the American Red Cross, a member of the Board of Directors for The Liberal Club, and was active in numerous committees at St. John of God Church in Somerset.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his son: Brian M. Vieira (wife Suzanne), granddaughter: Allyson Vieira and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Elsie Coleman, Tina Taylor, and Tony Vieira.

His funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home 1521 N. Main St. Fall River on Wednesday here at 9 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial St. John of God Church at 10 A.M.
