Ruth D. Ashley, 67, of New Bedford, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side, Friday, August 28, 2015 after a brief illness. Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Elton A. and Susan H. (Wilbur) Ashley, she had lived in the Acushnet/New Bedford area for most of her life. A graduate of the St. Luke's School of Nursing, she was a registered nurse. Mrs. Ashley enjoyed gardening and cooking, but most of all she loved spending time with her family, especially at her grandchildren's sporting events.
Survivors include her 2 sons: Marc P. Vercellone and his wife Maureen of Wareham and David A. Vercellone and his wife Beth of Rochester; a daughter: Susan W. Medeiros of New Bedford; 4 brothers: Elton A. Ashley, Jr. of Rochester, Michael F. Ashley of Acushnet, Frederick S. Ashley of NC and William C. Ashley of Acushnet; 7 grandchildren: Nicholas, Angus, Mia, Noah, Ella, Cullen and Ian; and several nieces and nephews.
She was mother of the late Kristofer R. Vercellone and sister of the late Marcia F. Lescord.
