Obituary

Joseph Perreco, 92 of West Roxbury, passed away at home on August 27, 2015 surrounded by his adoring family. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lena M (Terrazzano), his daughter Rosemarie Perreco and her long-time friend, Joseph Paulini of Needham, his daughter Kathy Licciardi and her husband Ken of Sharon. Joe joins his beloved son, the late John Joseph of West Roxbury. Joe was born and raised in the North End of Boston. He served in the Army as a medic during WWII. Although Joe would never call himself a hero, he was awarded multiple medals for bravery, including a Silver Star and two Bronze Stars. While in Europe, his unit came under fire from a German sniper while they were evacuating a severely injured lieutenant from the battlefield. Under fire, Joe and his team crawled across rough terrain to drag the lieutenant to safety. He and his team saved the officer's life. Joe was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action. Joe was modest and never liked to talk about his medals. Throughout his life, people who met Joe called him the nicest man they ever met. He always had a welcoming smile, a joke or two, and the latest stats on the Red Sox. Joe had a gentle spirit that touched all who were lucky enough to have met him. He loved talking sports with Joe P, big Italian Sunday dinners, breakfast with his buddy Ron, working in his garden…but the greatest joy in Joe's life were his daughters. Although in declining health, the last ten years were some of his happiest because he spent them with his daughter, Rosemarie, whose love and care added many happy years and fond memories to his life. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in memory of Joe, P.O.
