Obituary

Mrs. Pierrette Agnes (Morency) Murphy formerly of Gorham, NH, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 27, 2015, while in the loving care of staff of the St. Vincent de Paul Nursing Home, where she has been a resident since 2012. She was 94.

She was born in Trois Pistoles, Canada, on March 5, 1921, the daughter of Alfred and Marie Rose (St. Pierre) Morency. She came with her family to the United States at the age of 5 and they settled in Berlin, NH. Pierrette graduated from Berlin High School with the class of 1938. She married Arnold J. Murphy on May 21, 1945 and resided in Gorham for most of her life. She was employed in the office at PSNH for several years and later for John Hancock Insurance, retiring in 1973. Pierrette was known as “Aunt Murph”, “Tante Murph” or just “Murph” to all who loved her. She spent many wonderful years at her camp on Twitchell Pond in Locke Mills, Maine, where she entertained many of her nieces and nephews, each their turn, every summer for many years. All family members have wonderful memories of their time spent at camp. Her dogs Rusty and Browny were the only pets that many of the cousins knew while growing up and we got to play with them and ride in the car with them while at camp. Murph was a very generous person who liked to laugh. She was the historian of our family and could always be trusted to give an unbiased version of family events.

Pierrette is survived by one brother, John Morency, and his wife Joan of LaHabra, CA; two sisters-in-law, Gertrude Bisson of Berlin and Georgette Morency of Fort Pierce, FL; one brother-in-law, Roland Pouliot of Berlin; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband in 1977; sisters Emilienne Pouliot, Rachel Therriault, Theresa Pouliot and Mary LeClair, and one brother, Marcel Morency; as well as one nephew, James Murphy.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday Aug. 31, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Holy Family Church in Gorham, NH. Relatives and friends may call at the Bryant Funeral Home, 1 Promenade St., Gorham on Monday from 11 AM to 12:30 PM prior to the funeral mass. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Berlin. In lieu of flowers, Murph would like donations made to NH Catholic Charities, Macular Degeneration Assoc. or to the St. Vincent de Paul Nursing Home Activity Fund.
