Obituary

FRAMINGHAM: Steven M. Harris, 56, of Framingham, formerly of Wellesley and Natick, died on Saturday, August 22, 2015, at his home. He was the beloved husband of Copie Lilien Harris, with whom he shared 20 years of marriage.

A Framingham resident for 15 years, Steve was born in Napa, California, the son of Gwen Gundestrup Harris of California and the late Kenneth Harris.

Steve was a highly regarded consultant and computer architect. He was one of the first in the field of mobile device engineering to successfully design and program with both Android and Apple operating systems. As a consultant, he worked with many large technology companies over the span of his career, among them Adobe, Bell Labs and Motorola.

He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the State University of New York (SUNY) Albany. A veteran of the United States Navy, Steve was also a member of the 27th Company at the US Naval Academy at Annapolis.

Diagnosed with terminal cancer in May of 2014, Steve managed to continue to live life to the fullest and was able to work full time from home. In July of 2014, he and Copie renewed their wedding vows in Provence, France. Steve became a prolific encaustic painter, discovering his talent for this unique medium weeks after his diagnosis, and this April, he and Copie traveled to Turkey and Germany. An avid skydiver with over 200 jumps to his credit, Steve’s last jump, wearing a wingsuit, was on August 1st.

Steve was a wonderful individual, who taught all about him how to laugh, love and live, even while facing death. In addition to his wife, Steve is survived by his stepdaughter, Cameron Kelly of Eugene, Oregon; his stepson, Griffin Kelly of Melbourne, Australia; his honorary daughter, Melissa Blackall of Somerville; and family on the West Coast. His beloved Samoyed dogs, Rowdy and Rika, always brought him comfort and joy.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with his family on Sunday, September 13, 2015, beginning at 3:00 PM in the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home at 4 Park Street, Natick Common, followed by a Service in Remembrance and Celebration of Steven's Life at 4:00 PM.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in Steve's memory to the Massachusetts Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 350 South Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA 02130.
