Obituary

Alice Marie (Gray) Taylor, 86, of Londonderry, NH, died on Thursday, August 27, 2015 at home with her family. Born March 6, 1929 in Grafton, NH, she was the daughter of Clifton and Dora (Bliss) Gray. Alice was one of 11 children. She graduated from Farmington High School in 1947 and attended Gordon College. She worked at several jobs, including teller at the Indian Head Bank in Derry, where she first realized her love of working with the public. Alice got involved with the PTA and served as president.
In 1961, Alice was first elected to the position of Town Clerk, Tax Collector and Secretary to the Selectmen. As the town grew, the jobs were separated and she was the beloved Town Clerk for the next thirty years. During her years working for the town, Alice earned many awards and accolades including Citizen of the Year in 1968.
Over the years, Alice enjoyed ballroom dancing with Richard and friends at the Carousel Ballroom, motorcycling and touring New England with Richard and friends, traveling to many countries including a favorite train trip across Canada and visiting the beach here in NH and in several exotic locations.
Alice was married to her loving husband of 67 years, Richard W. Taylor marrying on September 3, 1948. In addition to her husband, Alice’s family includes her son Rick Taylor and wife Melanie of Londonderry and daughter Donna Bradley and companion, Dr. Robert Van Valkenberg of Kittery, ME. Alice adored her grandchildren, Ashley Taylor, Jordan Bradley, Jenna Taylor, Jeffrey Taylor and Ariel Bradley, as they adored her. In addition, Alice is survived by two sisters, Ethel Scruton and Muriel Baxter, both of Rochester, NH as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Arrangements are at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Road, Londonderry. Calling hours were held on Monday, August 31st from 10 to 11am, followed by a brief service and burial at Pleasant View Cemetery in Londonderry.
