Barbara Proffit (Rounds), age 88, of Brunswick, ME formerly of Abington, MA passed away at home surrounded by her family. Barbara was born to Elizabeth and George Rounds on September 9, 1927. After being educated in Abington schools Barbara worked in the school cafeteria and later, worked for Colonial Rug Co along with being a Mother and talented homemaker. making custom braided rugs. She eventually became an instructor of braided rugs in adult education. Barbara was president of the Onset Bay Art Gallery. She co-owned and operated the Country Bumpkin Used Furniture Store in Abington, MA and was a Nursing Home Activities Director in Brockton, MA. Barbara was also a seamstress for WareGuard in her later life. Along with having many careers Barbara also loved volunteering for various causes such as Meals on Wheels, People’s Plus in their thrift store, and was on her high school reunion committee. Barbara enjoyed spending time with her entire family and will always be remembered for everything she has done for them.
Barbara was predeceased by her beloved husband of 47 years John W. Proffit Sr. She is survived by her loving children John W. Proffit Jr. of Cusseta, GA, Gregory A. Proffit of Savannah, GA, Gary P. Proffit of Cusseta, GA, Judith A. Acquin of Brunswick, ME, and was predeceased by Kevin C. Proffit, Peggy Parsons, and Sandy Staples. Barbara is also survived by twelve grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren and her long-term caregivers Linda Walker and Cyndie LaGrange.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, August 31, 2015 at 11 AM in the First Baptist Church of Abington located at 219 Adams St. Abington, MA 02351. Burial will immediately follow at MA National Cemetery in Bourne at 1:45PM. Donations in memory of Barbara may be made to the Pine Tree Camp at 114 Pine Tree Camp Rd. in Rome, ME 04963.
