TEWKSBURY - Joseph A. Rodrigues, age 81, died peacefully at his Tewksbury residence on Wednesday morning, August 26. He was the beloved husband of Stella (Madison) Rodrigues, who died in 2008.
Joseph was born in Cambridge, August 1934, a son of the late Antonio and Catherine (Cain) Rodrigues, and was raised in Cambridge. He had lived in Tewksbury for the past 50 years, where he was a communicant of St. William’s Church.
He enlisted into the U.S. Navy, and proudly served during the Korean War.
He worked as a supervisor in the paving business for several area companies including Warren Bros., Trimont, Sunshine Paving, and others.
Joe was remembered as a devoted husband and father, and was especially fond of the time he spent with his grandchildren. He was also remembered as having been a great provider, and met the trials of life with a great sense of humor, and was usually “the life of the party.”
He leaves four children, Joseph M. Rodrigues, Stella Conley and her husband Frank, and Catherine Cormier, all of Lowell, Marypat McGrath of Sterling; his brothers, Edward Rodrigues of Cambridge, Robert and his wife Janice Rodrigues of Billerica, James and his wife Nancy Rodrigues of Cambridge; his sisters, Eleanor “Ellie” Silva of Andover, and Betty-Ann Kennedy and her husband Robert of Westford; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and was predeceased by his daughter, Anna Rodrigues; brother George Rodrigues; and sisters, Shirley Silva and Donna Rodrigues.
Visiting hours Friday, Aug. 28, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Rte. 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER PH. (800 in MA OR 978) 851 2950. His funeral will begin Saturday, August 29, at 9:30 from the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. in the Oblate Novitiate Chapel, 486 Chandler St., Tewksbury, MA.
