Caryl M. (Hoelzel) O’Connell, age 83 of Methuen passed away on August 19, 2015. Caryl was born in Lawrence on April 9, 1932 to the late Raymond and Dorothy (Sullivan) Hoelzel. Mrs. O’Connell was a graduate of both Lawrence High School and the Lawrence General School of Nursing. She was a long time registered nurse, working at both the Bon Secour Hospital of Methuen and Phillips Academy of Andover. Mrs. O’Connell was a lifelong communicant of St. Monica’s Parish of Methuen. She loved to read, cook and spend time with her family.
Caryl was the beloved wife of the late Vincent “Tippy” O’Connell with whom she shared 59 years of marriage. She was the devoted mother of Debbie O’Connell of Haverhill, Colleen McGowan of Philadelphia, PA, Paula Giarrusso and her late husband Michael of Methuen, Stephen O’Connell and his wife Gina of Glastonbury, CT, the late Ellen Morisseau and the late Peter O’Connell. Mrs. O’Connell was the loving grandmother of Michael Giarrusso and his wife Kristine, James Giarrusso and his wife Elizabeth, Jennifer Giarrusso, Steven Giarrusso, Kristen Jackman and her husband Ken, Kerry O’Connell, Dana O’Connell, Liam O’Connell, Declan O’Connell, Eamon O’Connell, Francis McGowan and Patrick McGowan. She was the cherished great grandmother of Quinn, Garrity, Madeleine, Parker, Preston, Tyler and Gwendolyn. Caryl was the dear sister of the late Doryce Wunderlich. She is also survived by her daughter in-law Joan O’Connell and David Hoelazel.
Friends and guests are invited to call on Sunday, August 23, 2015 at the Kenneth H. Pollard funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St. Methuen from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, August 24, 2015 at St. Monica’s Parish of Methuen at 9:00 AM. Interment to follow at Elmwood Cemetery of Methuen.
