Lounelle Zorn Brown
8/11/2015

Mary Lounelle Zorn Brown died Tuesday morning, August 11, 2015, at the Pruitt Health Care Ashburn Nursing Home following a fall at the home on May 12, 2015 , resulting in a broken hip and complications following surgery. She had been a resident of the home since 2005.

Born on February 18, 1914, in rural Turner County, Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Lester Brown, and her parents, Emmett Calvin Zorn and Mary Elizabeth Kendrick Zorn, as well as sisters Athelene Zorn Brown, Virginia Zorn Zucca, Opal Zorn Watkins and brothers Harvey, Thurman, Marvin, and Thomas.

Mrs. Brown is survived by her son, Roger, and his wife, Faye, grandson Roger, Jr. (Rick), wife Carole, and greatgrandson, Ethan, all of Greensboro, NC. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was a longtime member of the Sycamore Primitive Baptist until it closed its doors in the 1990’s. She then became a member of New Providence Primitive Baptist Church which she attended until it became too difficult for her to maneuver steps and other physical barriers.

Mrs. Brown was known for the loving, caring, and giving of herself to others who needed it. When she was still driving, she was often seen taking neighbors and others to doctor’s offices, grocery shopping, or any other place they needed to go. She was the recipient of the 1999 annual award of the Turner County Kiwanis Club for her service to others.

The family of Mrs. Brown wishes to express their appreciation to all of the staff at Pruitt Health Ashburn Nursing Home for the love, care and support given to her as a resident. She participated in many of the activities until she broke her hip, but Bingo was among her favorites. Along with reading the Tifton Gazette and Wiregrass Farmer, she said that managing three bingo cards helped keep her mind active and alert.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that consideration be given to contributing to Wise Guys, a program to combat teen pregnancy by concentrating on young boys. This program is under the direction of her grandson, Rick, and it depends upon donations and grants. Contributions should be sent to Children’s Home Society of North Carolina, P.O. Box 14608, Greensboro, NC 27415, and identified as support for Wise Guys.

The service for Mrs. Brown will be held Thursday, August 13,2015 at Perry Funeral Chapel, 301 McLendon St., Ashburn, GA, at 1:30 p.m. The family will receive friends for one hour preceding the service. Burial will follow in the family plot at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Sycamore.
