TAUNTON – Maria V. (de Melo Bilhoes) Correia, 93, wife of the late Jose J. Correia, died at her Taunton home on Aug. 7, 2015 surrounded by her family.
Born in St. Michael, Azores, she was the daughter of the late Mariano and Maria J. (Vitoria) de Melo Bilhoes.
She had resided in Taunton since 1963.
A seamstress by trade, Maria was employed by Joe the Tailor for many years.
She enjoyed cooking, gardening, crocheting and spending time with her family.
A talented seamstress, Maria was well known for her abilities in designing and fashioning clothing for herself and others, in many cases creating her own patterns.
She was a communicant of Annunciation of the Lord Church.
Survivors include her children, Maria Eduarda Barbosa and her husband Noe, Dinisa Aguiar and her husband Cesar, and Norbina Silveira and her husband Joe, all of Taunton, Joseph M. Correia and his wife Pamela of Raynham, Maria G. Buffington and her husband John of New Bedford, and Mario G. Correia and his wife Christine of Dighton; two brothers, Mariano de Melo of CA and Bras de Melo of VA; four sisters, Altina Pacheco of Taunton, Teresa Araujo and Aida Pereira, both of San Jose, CA, and Deolinda Tavares of Montreal, Canada; thirteen grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also the sister of the late Jose and Januario de Melo, and Norbina Pastor.
Her funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Tuesday, Aug. 11th at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at Annunciation of the Lord Church at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Monday, Aug. 10th from 5 to 8 p.m.
