Obituary

Mrs. Margaret Mary (Fleming) Vassilopoulos, a longtime resident of Belmont, formerly of Boston and beloved wife of the late Lyssimachos Vassilopoulos, passed away on Thursday evening, August 6, 2015. She was 79 years old.
Born in England on June 13, 1936, she was the beloved daughter of the late James and Elizabeth (Byrne) Fleming. Margaret was an elementary school teacher in England and then became a flight attendant for American Airlines based in Boston. She received an award for outstanding valor for her part in saving the lives of passengers during a plane crash at LaGuardia airport in 1960. A former parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church in Belmont, she volunteered as a Lector and a CCD Teacher. She was involved with numerous charities, political organizations, and school committees within her community. Maggie’s style, wit, and generosity will be dearly missed.
Margaret is lovingly survived by her sons and daughters-in-law; Christopher and his wife Michelle Vassilopoulos of Andover and Michael and his wife Conni Vassilopoulos of Luxembourg, brother; Michael Fleming of Wales and two grandchildren; Alexander and Ava. She was also the sister of the late Desmond and Stephen Fleming of England.
Calling hours will be held in the Chapel at West Parish Garden Cemetery, 210 Lowell Street, Andover on Tuesday, August 11, 2015, from 4 to 7 PM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend.
