METHUEN – Elizabeth M. “Betty” (Rother) Puchtler, 104, a lifelong resident of Methuen, passed away Friday July 31, 2015 at the Salem Haven Nursing Home in Salem, NH.
Born and educated in Methuen, MA, she was the daughter of Werner and Selma (Getz) Rother. For many years Elizabeth was in employed at the Wood Mills in Lawrence, MA and for 12 years at Western Electric, Bell Labs in North Andover, MA. She was a very active member of the United Methodist Church in Lawrence, a member of the Eastern Star and also the Methuen Senior Center in Methuen, MA. Betty was an accomplished seamstress, enjoyed arts and crafts, cooking and gardening.
The widow of Emil Puchtler, she is survived by her two sons, Dennis Puchtler of Methuen, MA and Daniel Puchtler of Texas. Elizabeth also leaves her 12 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 47 great-great grandchildren and 9 great-great-great grandchildren. One son-in-law Richard Herrick of Plaistow, NH and several nieces and nephews. Elizabeth was the beloved mother of the late, Mary Jane Herrick; cherished grandmother of Eric Puchtler and sister of the late Martha Schliebus, Dorothy Fischer and Ruth Knight.
Visiting hours for family and friends will be Thursday from 3:00p.m. – 7:00p.m. at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, Inc., 233 Lawrence Street Methuen, MA 01844. Funeral service will be Friday at 11:30a.m. at the funeral home with burial to follow in the Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen.
