Obituary

Clifford J. Santos of Provincetown died Monday, August 3rd at Seashore Point Wellness Center in Provincetown after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was the husband of Rita (Riley) Santos.

The son of the late Manuel and Corrine (Deers) Santos, he was a life-long Provincetown resident. A Korean War era US Navy veteran, he served aboard the USS Hale. After discharge he returned home, and became a mechanic at the former Duarte Motors in Provincetown for many years. He left Duarte’s to become a Mechanic for the Massachusetts Highway Department in Orleans, later becoming an Area Highway Supervisor. He worked for the state for 28 years, retiring in 1992.

Cliff was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Parish and a Life Member of the Walter Welsh Council, Knights of Columbus.

In addition to his wife Rita of Provincetown, he is survived by sons Clifford J. Santos and his wife Caren of Mendon, Patrick M. Santos of Provincetown and a daughter Colleen J. Steele and her husband John of Framingham. Grandchildren Abigail and Emily Santos as well as Allison and Mark Steele also survive him. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Santos.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Gately Funeral Home, 94 Harry Kemp Way, Provincetown on Thursday, August 6th from 4 to 6 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, August 7th at 10:00 am at St. Peter the Apostle Church, Prince St., Provincetown. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery.
